The Indian Army successfully diverted the flow of the Chakki river in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra after heavy rains destroyed a railway bridge

Chakki river is a tributary of river Beas.

It flows through Indian states Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and joins Beas near Pathankot.

It is fed by snow and rain in the Dhauladhar mountains.

The 800-metre-long railway bridge over the Chakki river on the border of Punjab and Himachal in Kangra district collapsed after the flash flood.

The railway line was constructed and commissioned by the British in 1928.

The rail line is the lifeline for hundreds of villages located in the Pong Dam wildlife sanctuary, where there are no roads or bus service
