Why is in news? PM Modi to launch various initiatives under e-court project on Constitution Day

The Prime Minister of India will participate in the Constitution Day celebrations in the Supreme Court on November 26. During the programme, the PM will launch various new initiatives under the e-court project.

The project is an effort to provide services to litigants, lawyers, and the judiciary through information and communication technology. The initiatives being launched by the Prime Minister include Virtual Justice Clock, JustIS mobile App 2.0, Digital court, and S3WaaS Websites.

Virtual Justice Clock will make the functioning of the courts accountable and transparent by sharing with the public the status of case disposals by the court. The public can access the Virtual Justice Clock of any court on the District Court’s website.

Through JustIS Mobile App 2.0, judges of the High Court and Supreme Court can now monitor the case pendency and its disposal.

The Digital court is an initiative to make court records available to the judge in digitized form.

The S3WaaS website is a framework to generate, configure, deploy and manage websites for publishing specified information and services related to district judiciary.

All the people associated with the judicial system are getting its benefit. It is expected that the use of new technologies like 5G will further strengthen the efforts to provide speedy justice to the people.

Some of the other e-initiatives under e-Court Mission Mode Project:

Hybrid mode –All courts in CG including all benches of Hon’ble High Court are working on hybrid mode that is courts are working physically as well as virtually through video confrencing.

Live streaming – Live streaming rules have been framed and notify by notification dated 02/05/2022 and Live streaming will start very soon.

N-STEP – At present N-STEP -National Service and Tracking of Electronic Processes (NSTEP) is an Android OS APP developed for service and delivery of Court Processes, has been implemented in District & Subordinate Courts of the State in Chhattisgarh. Training has been provided to all the process servers/bailiff for effective implementation of N-STEP Software at ground level.

e-filing – e-Filing system enables electronic filing of legal papers. Using e-filing, cases (both civil and criminal) can be filed before the High Courts and District Courts that have adopted e-Filing systems. e-filing facility has been started in all the District & Sessions Court.

e-Pay – It enable the payment to judiciary through online/electronic mode. It is implemented in most of the District & Sessions Courts and in rest of the location implementation of the same will be commenced soon.

ICJS – Integration has been done between the Courts and Police under the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) to implement Live Electronic Exchange of data in courts of this state to implement Live Electronic Exchange of data.

e-Sewa Kendra – e-Sewa Kendras have been created in the High Courts and in one District Court in each State on a pilot basis. It enables litigants to obtain information with respect to case status and to obtain copies of judgments and orders.

National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) – National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) is a database of orders, judgments and case details of 18,735 District & Subordinate Courts and High Courts created as an online platform under the eCourts Project. Data is updated on a near real-time basis by the connected District and Taluka courts.

e-Training of officers/staff of the District Courts – e-Training programme is being conducted online through Google Meet VC Software. The resource persons made online presentations and discussed the issues.

Case Information Kiosk – Kiosk machines have been provided to all the District Courts of the State to provide information related to status of cases. Touch screen kiosks are installed at various court complexes across the country. Litigants and advocates can view and obtain information relating to case status, cause lists and other important information relating to pending cases at these stations.
