Lumpy skin disease that affects cattle caused by a virus of the family Poxviridae, also known as Neethling virus.
It is transmitted by blood-feeding insects, such as certain species of flies and mosquitoes, or ticks.
LSD is a highly infectious disease of cattle and water buffalo that does not affect other livestock or humans.
It causes fever, nodules on the skin and can also lead to death, especially in animals that that have not previously been exposed to the virus.
There is no treatment for Lumpy Skin Disease.
Prevention: It is difficult to stop cattle being attacked by infected vectors (flies, etc.) once infection is within an area.
