INS Tabar Arrived At St Petersburg To Participate In Russian Navy Day Celebrations.

The tradition to hold the Main Naval Parade in St Petersburg is "to honour glorious victories of the Navy that made a substantial contribution to defending the Fatherland" emerged in 2017.

About INS Tabar:

ØINS Tabar (F44)called as “battle axe” is the third of the Talwar-class frigate of the Indian Navy.

ØThe frigate was commissioned on 19 April 2004 in Kaliningrad, Russia with Captain (later Vice Admiral) Biswajit Dasgupta.

ØINS Tabar reached her home-port of Mumbai on 31 July 2004. Along with her sister ships INS Talwar (“sword” in Sanskrit) and INS Trishul (“trident” in Sanskrit).

ØINS Tabar is assigned to Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command, head-quartered in Mumbai.

ØINS Tabar, is a stealth frigate built for the Indian Navy in Russia.

Recent activity of INS TABAR

In recent times, the ship has visited various ports of the Persian Gulf on a goodwill mission.

The ship also participated in the International Fleet Review at Visakhapatnam.

It recently visited Port Louis to participate in the Mauritius National Day celebrations.

INS TABAR recently visited Hamburg, Germany on 17 July 24.

The developments assumes significance as a follow up of Indian prime ministers recent visit to Russia to participate in the Indo-Russia annual Bilateral summit.

The Talwar-class frigates:

ØThe Talwar-class frigates are a series of stealthy guided-missile frigates designed for the Indian Navy.

ØThese warships combine stealth features with advanced weaponry and sensors, offering a blend of firepower, survivability, and versatility.

ØThe Talwar-class frigates are equipped to perform a variety of roles, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and air defense.

INS Triput is the latest addition to the Indian Navy's fleet of Talwar-class frigates.

Launched on July 23, 2024, by the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), this vessel marks a significant step forward in India's naval capabilities.

ØThe first indigenously built Talwar-class frigate, 'Triput,' is part of a deal between India and Russia signed in October 2016.

The Indian Navy already operates six Talwar-class ships:
