Under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
The National Gopal Ratna Awards is conferred under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission in the following categories:
Best Dairy farmer rearing indigenous cattle/buffalo breeds, (ii) Best Artificial Insemination Technician (AIT), (iii) Best Dairy Cooperative Society/ Milk producer Company/ Dairy Farmer Producer Organisation.
Rashtriya Gokul Mission: It was launched in December 2014.
It as an initiative to develop and conserve the indigenous bovine breeds for improving the milk production and productivity in a scientific manner which includes superior nutrition and farm management.
Government has sanctioned funds under Rashtriya Gokul Mission for setting up of 21 Gokul Grams as Integrated Cattle Development Centres.
As of now, 4 Gokul grams (Varanasi, Mathura, Patiala, and Phora) have been completed and work is under progress in remaining 17 Gokul grams.
