Why is in news? Shri Dharmendra Pradhan along with Shri Manohar Lal Khattar dedicated 124 PM-Shri schools to Haryana

Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship along with Chief Minister of Haryana dedicated 124 PM-Shri schools to Haryana. These schools will have ICT labs and Smart Classrooms also.

Apart from these, the Ministers also launched the Accreditation of the Schools app and Mobile Application (NIPUN). Books and Learning Materials for Balvatika-3rd were also be unveiled during the occasion.

About:

PM SHRI School is a centrally sponsored scheme by the Government of India.

This initiative is intended to develop more than 14500 PM SHRI Schools managed by Central Government/State/UT Government/local bodies including KVS and NVS in which every student feels welcomed and cared for, where a safe and stimulating learning environment exists, where a wide range of learning experiences are offered, and where good physical infrastructure and appropriate resources conducive to learning are available to all students.

It will nurture students in a way that they become engaged, productive, and contributing citizens for building an equitable, inclusive, and plural society as envisaged by the National Education Policy 2020.

More than 20 lakh students are expected to be the direct beneficiaries of the scheme.

The scheme will also promote an understanding of various dimensions of the Quality of school education and inform Policy, Practice and Implementation.

The learning from these schools will be scaled up to other schools in the country.

The Scheme is proposed to be implemented over a period of 5 years with effect from 2022-23 to 2026-27.

Online portal of PM SHRI schoolshas already been launched on 03.11.2022.

Furthermore, the selection of PM SHRI has been followed by a transparent challenge method, wherein Schools have self-applied on the online portal.

For modern, transformation and holistic method of imparting education, themajor interventions in the PM SHRI Schemeare:

Quality and Innovation(Learning Enhancement Programme, Holistic Progress Card, Innovative Pedagogies, Bagless days, Internships with Local artisans, Capacity building etc)

Beneficiary oriented Entitlementsunder Right to Education Act

Annual School Grants(Composite School grants, Library grant, Sports grant)

Early Childhood Care and Educationincluding Balvatika and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy

Equity and Inclusion includingprovision of safe and appropriate infrastructurefor girls and Children with Special Needs (CWSN)

Encouragingflexibility in choice of subjectsoffered to students.

Encouragingmother tongue as medium of instructionusing technological interventions to help bridge language barriers between teachers and students

ICT, smart classrooms and digital libraries for using digital pedagogy

Strengthening of existing infrastructure

Vocational interventions & Enhancing internship/entrepreneurship opportunities especially with local industry. Mapping of skills with developmental projects/nearby industry and develop courses/curriculum accordingly
