Why is in news? Police Commemoration Day: HM Amit Shah to pay tribute to martyred soldiers at National Police Memorial in Delhi
October 21 commemorates the sacrifices of ten CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
On October 21, 1959, ten Indian policemen were killed during an attack by Chinese troops in the Hot Springs region close to Ladakh after an argument between the troops.
Since that day, 21 October has been observed as National Police Commemoration Day in honour of the martyrs.
A parade is held on October 21 at the Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, Delhi every year since 2012.
On October 15, 2018, the first national police museum in India was inaugurated in Delhi by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The Intelligence Bureau and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) are in charge of the museum.
In the last one year, 264 police personnel were martyred this year and so far 36 thousand 59 brave police personnel have laid down their lives for the country.
