'Ulchi Freedom Shield' – It is a military exercise between South Korea and the United States.
Under an all-out war concept, the exercise consists of two parts ― the first segment involving drills on repelling North Korean attacks and defending the greater Seoul area, with the second part focusing on counterattack operations.
South Korea also launched the four-day Ulchi civil defence drills separately.
The military and civil exercises are aimed at improving the country's preparedness to match the changing patterns of war, with evolving cyber threats against key facilities such as chip factories and supply chains.
