India in collaboration with the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), has unveiled the “India Ageing Report 2023.”

Findings of the report for India:

Decadal growth rate of elderly population : 41%

Elderly: Aged above 60

Share of elderly population by 2050: 20%

Higher than Children.

40% of the elderly in India are poor

18.7% of the poor are living without an income

women, on an average, had a higher life expectancy at the age of 60 and 80 when compared with men
