Application Fees

You can pay the application fees while filling the application form. It can be done online through net banking, debit card, credit card and other payment options. The amount is as follows: General/ EWS/OBC: Rs.100/- for prelims and Rs.200/- for Mains SC/ST/PH//female: No Fees

IAS Eligibility Criteria

Candidates need to read all the details regarding the IAS eligibility criteria before applying for the IAS 2023 examination. Only those candidates who fulfil the criteria would be allowed for the examination. Here are the details:

Nationality:

The first and foremost eligibility criteria is that the candidate must be a citizen of India. Citizens of Nepal, Bhutan and Tibetan refugees who came to India before Jan 1 1962 are also eligible. Indian origin candidates who have migrated to countries such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Myanmar and Vietnam can also apply.

Age:

The applying candidate should have completed 21 years and shouldn’t be above 32 years of age. Age relaxation is applicable to candidates of the following reserved categories.

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• Defence service personnel: 3 years.
• Ex-servicemen including commissioned officers ECOs/SSCOs: 5 years

Educational Qualifications:

The candidate should be a graduate from any recognized university. Candidates who have studied professional and technical courses can also apply, provided they are from a recognized university. Candidates who are in the final year of graduation can also apply for the IAS Civil Services examination.

Exam Pattern:

As mentioned earlier, the IAS examination will be held in three stages – preliminary, mains and interview. While the prelims are completely objective-based, mains are descriptive.

Civil Services Preliminary Exam:

There are two examinations in the Civil Services Preliminary Exam. Both are objective-based where the candidates are given four options in which they need to choose the correct answer. The first examination is based on general studies while the second is the Civil Service Aptitude Test or CSAT. Both the tests are for 200 marks each and will have 2 hours of duration. To appear for the mains, the candidates need to qualify in both the exams. Candidates have to be extremely careful in giving answers as there is negative marking for each wrong answer.

Civil Service Mains Exam:

Once a candidate clears the prelims, they can appear for the mains. This examination is descriptive where the candidate has to choose one modern language and Hindi. There would also be examination related to polity, geography, history etc. Candidates will be given the option to choose two subjects from the list. Most candidates choose the subjects they find easy to score. The entire mains examination is for 1750 marks. UPSC Civil Services Exam Syllabus:

The UPSC Prelims have two papers where the first one covers questions regarding general awareness which includes national, international, history, polity, geography and governance. The second paper, aptitude consists of questions related to the mental and general decision-making ability of the candidate. This includes logical reasoning, comprehensions, data interpretation and analytical ability. The mains will have questions that are descriptive-based. UPSC Syllabus 2023 for Preliminary Exam:

Both the papers in the prelims are compulsory. Each are weighed for 200 marks and the exam duration is two hours. The questioned are objective-based and will have in two sets – Hindi and English. In the second paper CSAT, is a qualifying paper where the candidate much obtain atleast 33% marks.

UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam Syllabus:

The mains examination and Interview decides your score for UPSC Civil Service exam. While the mains hold 1750 marks, Interview holds 275 marks. Out of the nine papers in the mains, seven will be counted for ranking. However, the two language papers are compulsory and the candidates must score a minimum mark prescribed by the UPSC every year.

Paper –A (Indian Language):

According to the eighth schedule of the Indian constitution, candidates who appear for the UPSC exam can select an Indian Language of their choice. However, candidates who come from the North East such as states of Mizoram, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya & Nagaland exempted from this.

Paper-B: English language:

This is compulsory for everyone appearing for the exam and is one of the qualifying subjects.

UPSC 2023 Interview:

Once you qualify for the UPSC Mains, the next stage is Interview. This stage analyses the personality of the candidate. Admit Card:

The IAS 2023 prelims admit card will be out in September 2023 and that for Mains will be released in December 2023. Here are some details about the Admit Card:

• The admit card will not be sent to the candidate through the post. The candidate has to download it from the official site.
• The candidates are requested to kindly read the guidelines before downloading the admit card.
• The admit card can be downloaded using the application number and password/date of birth.
• The candidate without an admit card will not be allowed to attend the exam.
• Carry your ID proof along with you to the exam hall.

Steps to Download the Admit card:

• Go to the official website of UPSC.
• On the homepage, click on the e-admit card link of the UPSC exam and then click download.
• A new window will open where you have to enter the registration number /roll number and date of birth.
• UPSC Prelims Admit Card will be displayed on the screen
• Download and print a copy of the Admit Card.

UPSC 2023 Result:

After you successfully complete each stage, you can avail the result from the UPSC official website. The Prelims 2023 results will be declared by October 2023.
