Why is in news? PM pays homage to Acharya Vinoba Bhave on his birth anniversary

Vinayak Narahari also known as Vinoba Bhave, (11 September 1895 – 15 November 1982) was an Indianadvocate of nonviolence and human rights. Often called Acharya (Sanskrit for teacher), he is best known for theBhoodan Movement.

He is considered a National Teacher of India and thespiritual successor of Mahatma Gandhi. He was an eminent philosopher. He alsotranslates Bhagavat Gita into Marathi language title Geetai.

In1940he was chosen by Gandhi to bethe first individual Satyagrahiagainst the British rule.

TheBhoodan movement(Land Gift movement), also known asthe Bloodless Revolution, was a voluntary land reform movement in India.

It was initiated by Gandhian Vinoba Bhave in1951 at Pochampally village, Pochampally,Telangana.

The Bhoodan movement attempted topersuade wealthy landowners to voluntarily give a percentage of their land to landless people.
