Why in news?

The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), successfully hosted the second edition of the HIM-DRONE-A-THON at Wari La Pass, Ladakh, on September 17-18, 2024.

  • This event marked a significant step in the Indian Army’s initiative to integrate cutting-edge indigenous drone technology for high-altitude military operations.:

About HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2

  • Aim-to catalyse and provide focused opportunities to the Indian drone ecosystem to develop path-breaking drone capabilities for meeting requirements of frontline troops.
  • It is based on the principle that ‘good available indigenously’is better than the ‘best available globally’.

ØThis event serves as a platform for theIndian Drone Industryto demonstrate drone solutions tailored for high-altitude areas, where the Indian Army frequently operates.

ØThe event was conducted under actual terrain and environmental conditions at altitudes ranging from4,000 to 5,000 metersto test the drones’ performance in realistic scenarios.

ØIndigenous drone manufacturersare invited to participate, demonstrating various drone types, including:

  • Surveillance drones
  • Loitering munitions
  • Logistics drones
  • Swarm drones
  • Drones with specialized roles and payloads, such as Electronic Warfare, Synthetic Aperture Radar, Communication Intelligence, and Electronic Intelligence.

HIMTECH-2024: Advancing High-Altitude Technologies

ØHIMTECH-2024 follows HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2.

ØIt is conceptualized to discuss, demonstrate, and explore new opportunities for the development and integration of technologies for high-altitude military operations.

ØIt has been organized in collaboration withFICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry).

ØIt highlights the latest technologies and systems developed to meet the operational requirements along India’sNorthern Borders.
