Why is in news? President of India presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the years 2022 and 2023

The President of India presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the years 2022 and 2023 to the Nursing professionals at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 22, 2023.

The National Florence Nightingale Award was instituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 1973 as a mark of recognition for the meritorious services rendered by the nurses and nursing professionals to the society.

Florence Nightingale:

She was an English social reformer, statistician and the founder of modern nursing.

She served as a manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War (1853-56), she significantly reduced death rates by improving hygiene and living standards.

She gave nursing a favorable reputation and became an icon of "The Lady with the Lamp" making rounds of wounded soldiers at night.

In 1860, she laid the foundation of professional nursing with the establishment of her nursing school in London. It was the first secular nursing school in the world and is now part of King's College London.

In her honour, the annual International Nurses Day is celebrated on her birthday on 12th May.

Her social reforms included improving healthcare for all sections of British society, advocating better hunger relief in India, helping to abolish prostitution laws that were harsh for women, and expanding the acceptable forms of female participation in the workforce.

She was a pioneer in statistics; she represented her analysis in graphical forms to ease drawing conclusions and actionable data.

In her lifetime, much of her published work was concerned with spreading medical knowledge.

5. PM Kisan Mobile App

Why is in news? Shri Narendra Singh Tomar launches PM Kisan Mobile App with Face Authentication Feature

The PM-Kisan Mobile App with Face Authentication Feature was launched by Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister under the central government's ambitious and popular scheme for income support to farmers "Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi".

Best example of modern technology using Face Authentication Feature from this app farmer can complete e-KYC remotely, sitting at home easily by scanning face without OTP or fingerprint and helped 100 other farmers to do e-KYC at their home.

Recognizing the need to make e-KYC mandatory, the Government of India has extended the ability of farmers to perform e-KYC to officers of state governments, so that each officer can complete the e-KYC process for 500 farmers.

The app was designed and developed by the National Informatics Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Key facts about PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN):

It is a Central Sector scheme with 100% funding from the Government of India.

The scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of the farmers in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields, commensurate with the anticipated farm income.

Benefits and Eligibility Conditions:

Under the scheme an income support of 6,000/- per year in three equal instalments will be provided to all land-holding farmer families. The definition of family for the scheme is husband, wife and minor children.

State Government and UT administration will identify the farmer families which are eligible for support as per scheme guidelines.

The fund will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

Categories of beneficiaries shall not be eligible for benefits under the scheme:

All Institutional Landholders.

Farmer families which belong to one or more of the following categories:

Former and present holders of constitutional posts.

Former and present Ministers/ State Ministers and former/present Members of LokSabha/ RajyaSabha/ State Legislative Assemblies/ State Legislative Councils, former and present Mayors of Municipal Corporations, former and present Chairpersons of District Panchayats.

All superannuated/retired pensioners whose monthly pension is Rs.10,000/-or more (Excluding Multi Tasking Staff / Class IV/Group D employees) of the above category

All Persons who paid Income Tax in the last assessment year

Professionals like Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Chartered Accountants, and Architects registered with Professional bodies and carry out profession by undertaking practices
