Why is in news? President of India to confer the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2023 tomorrow on 11 children for their exceptional achievement in six categories
The President of India will confer the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, 2023 to 11 exceptional children in anaward ceremony which will take place at Vigyan Bhawan on 23rd January, 2023.
The Government of India confers the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) award to children for their exceptional achievements
The awards are conferred upon children in the age group 5 – 18 years, for their excellence in six categories, viz. Art & Culture, Bravery, Innovation, Scholastic, Social Service and Sports, which deserve national recognition
Each awardee of PMRBP is given a medal, a cash prize of Rs.1 Lakh and a Certificate.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar ('Prime Minister's National Award for Children') is a civilian honour in India.
The award has two categories: Bal Shakti Puraskar and Bal Kalyan Puraskar.
Bal Shakti Puraskar, awarded to Indian citizens under the age of 18 for outstanding achievement in innovation, scholastic achievements, social service, arts and culture, bravery, or sports.
Bal Shakti Puraskar, previously the National Child Award, was instituted by the NGO Indian Council for Child Welfare in 1996.
Bal Kalyan Puraskar, to individuals or organisations that have made outstanding contributions in child development, child protection, or child welfare.
The Bal Kalyan Puraskar, previously the National Child Welfare Awards, was instituted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 1979.
In 2018, the two awards were renamed and combined into the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, which is administered by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The award is conferred by the President of India in the week preceding Republic Day, 26 January.
