The State government recently reconstituted the Tamil Nadu State Biodiversity Board, and included three special invitees from the Industries Department, the Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Department and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board

Chairperson: State Minister for Forest

Ex-officio members:

Secretary of the Environment, Climate Change and Forests;

Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj

Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Departments

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden

Other Members: 5

Special Invitees:

Secretary of the Industries, Investment Promotion & Commerce Department

Secretary Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Department

Functions of the Board

Advise the State Governments on matters relating to

conservation of biodiversity

. sustainable use of its components

. equitable sharing of benefits arising out of utilization of biological resources.

Regulate by granting approvals or otherwise request for commercial utilization or bio-survey and bio utilization of any biological resource by Indians.
